Starting Your Instagram Account : 5 Useful Tips

Do you think it's too late to start an Instagram account for your business? Do you feel like you can't break through the overflown platform? You couldn't be more wrong! Let me tell you how to improve your brand’s online presence.

Do you have a strategy?

You set up your Instagram account. Great! Before you start posting, think about the kind of content you’d like to share. Come up with a strategy and decide what you want to achieve in the long term. Don’t act blindly posting content that you personally think is interesting, but ask yourself: is this important for my audience? Also, beware that different posts have different purposes. Some help you build a relationship with your followers, some are meant to establish your image as an expert, and others reach new people. Finding the perfect balance between these three types of posts is necessary to engage your followers. Once you create your profile, remember to post regularly.

What is your target group?

What’s the next step? Before you create your Instagram posts, think about who you’d like to reach. A target group is a general definition of people to whom you address your content. Define your target group. Then describe a “dream” person you’d like to reach in detail. If you do that, it will be more probable that this person will find and follow your profile. Defining your target audience is crucial for choosing a tone of voice you’ll be using, how you’ll communicate, and how you’ll be solving followers’ problems.

Do you understand how the app works?

Each social media platform is different, so you need to understand first what Instagram is all about. Its users’ characteristics are: fast content consumption, the importance of visuals, and the need for entertainment. Therefore, you should make sure that: you’re aware of the application, how it works and what the audience thinks; you write captivating captions; you choose attractive images; you plan the posting time consciously; you put InstaStory elements in the correct place (follow the pink frame that the app suggests); you create shareable content; publish fewer InstaStories, but more often.

Do you look at the statistics?

No matter how big your profile is, it’s crucial to analyze the statistics. They help you draw conclusions from your Instagram activity and figure out what is working and what isn’t. The statistics inform you if your audience is growing and if the followers are engaging with your content. You’ll also understand your community better because you will be provided with information on the demographics.

Are you familiar with the algorithm?

The purpose of the algorithm is simple: it provides us with content that we’re interested in. The reason for that is for the users to spend as much time on Instagram as possible. The algorithm is constantly changing, so it’s very important to follow all the updates. Follow us and read more about the new features of the algorithm in our previous blog to stay current.

Things to know:

The algorithm doesn’t post chronologically on the feed, instead, what we see is based on our activity. An important part of the algorithm are hashtags. Find appropriate ones for your content and remember you can add as many as 30 to each caption. Last but not least - use InstaStory and Reels regularly to engage with and gain new followers.

There is no recipe for success that applies to all Instagram accounts. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things to see what works best for you!
